Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-29

Downshift is built privacy-first. This policy explains what that means.

The short version

No accounts · No ads · No tracking

Downshift has no user accounts and never sells data. Your Apple Health readings, journal entries and session history stay on your device. The one thing that leaves it is an anonymous crash report when the app fails — described in full below.

What we collect

Nothing you create, and nothing that identifies you. Downshift has no user accounts and operates no servers of its own. We use no advertising or tracking SDKs, and nothing you do in the app is profiled or analysed. We never see your breathing sessions, tension logs, journal entries, checklist activity, or settings.

There is one exception, and it is worth stating plainly: crash reports.

Crash reporting

When Downshift crashes or freezes, it sends a diagnostic report to Sentry, a third-party error-monitoring service, so the fault can be found and fixed. This is the only information that leaves your device to us.

A report describes the state of the software at the moment it failed: where in the code the crash happened, your device model, and your iOS version.

A report deliberately does not include:

Those channels are switched off in the app's code rather than left to a default. As a further safeguard, any text that does reach a report is filtered first: words that are not part of the app's own vocabulary are replaced with a dot before the report is sent, so a stray fragment of your own writing cannot travel with it.

Crash reports are not linked to your identity and are never used for tracking or advertising. Sentry processes them on our behalf as our data processor, under its own data-processing terms.

Where your data lives

All app data — breathing and relaxation sessions, tension entries, daily checklist history, and preferences — is stored only on your device using Apple's on-device storage. It is included in your encrypted device backups if you use them. We have no access to it.

Apple Health

If — and only if — you choose to connect Apple Health, Downshift can:

Wrist temperature and all the other signals are read-only; Downshift never writes them. The Body Stress Index is computed entirely on your device, by comparing today's signals to your own recent baseline. It is an estimate of how strained your body looks — not a medical measurement, and it cannot diagnose anything.

You decide what to allow, per data type, in the Health permission screen, and you can change or revoke it any time in the Health app. This data is read and written on your device only — Downshift never transmits, stores, or sells it.

Cost

Downshift shows no ads. Any purchase is processed entirely by Apple — we never receive or store payment information.

Notifications

If you turn on the optional daily reminder, it is scheduled locally on your device. No reminder data leaves your device.

Your control

You can permanently erase all app data at any time from Settings → Delete all data. Deleting the app also removes its data from your device.

Children

Downshift is a general wellness app and is not directed at children under 13.

Not medical advice

Downshift is a wellness and education tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. If you have persistent or severe symptoms, please consult a qualified health professional.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and the in-app copy.
